MEET THE INSTRUCTORS

Mari

(Pole Mamma) (Mondays Intermediates/Advanced)

Dance has been my passion since childhood; I have trained in rhythmic gymnastics, ballet and various types of modern dance including street, jazz and hip hop.

I have had great opportunities to train in pole and dance studios from London to New York, meeting some amazing and talented people along the way. In 2004, I discovered a class offering pole dancing lessons for fitness in Milton Keynes. I completely fell in love with the whole idea of pole dancing as a fitness and dance concept and haven’t looked back since! I qualified as a pole instructor in 2006 and my pole journey as Sugar Pole Fitness began since.

Now I am a mother, work full time as an international cabin crew and teach pole dancing so life can be a little hectic! However, I love the diversity of all these experiences and the people I get to meet.

My involvement in the pole industry includes being a judge at competitions alongside some amazing dancers and trained with numerous pole champions. I was also lucky enough to be part of the original X Pole girls promoting the world’s leading pole dancing poles and being part of the iPhone app, Pocket Pole Studio team.

Currently, I am a level 3 instructor in the Pole Dance Community, which represents one of the highest level of professionalism and teaching quality within the pole fitness industry. I am also an Xpert Spinning Pole Instructor since 2019.

In 2016, I fulfilled my ambition of opening up my own studio to share my passion with others in an open and friendly environment.

I am very proud of what we have achieved so far and look forward to helping more people experience fitness in a fun and exciting way!

Vanessa

(Thursdays Beginners/Improvers)

From a young age I have always done some form of dance training as I love the feeling of freedom dance gives you and pushing my body to its limits. My qualifications include ballet, jazz, tap, modern, street and cheerleading, so naturally pole fitness was the next challenge!

I started my pole journey not long after leaving university when I relocated to Northampton and found Sugar Pole Fitness. Mari had made every effort to make sure I was exceeding my goals and after every session I would come away feeling a sense of achievement, not to mention wanting to get straight back up the pole again to try the next progression!

Given my background and experience from my cheerleading coaching days, I have always enjoyed supporting my peers at pole and giving each other targets to achieve together. Nothing beats helping someone achieve their goals, so expect me to be your biggest cheerleader at pole!

Vic

(Weds PAYG drop ins)

Victoria first joined Sugar Pole Fitness as a student back in 2013 and loved it so much she became an instructor in 2015!

She initially joined after seeing a pole performance that inspired her to try it herself and found it an exciting way to keep fit and has seen her fitness levels – and particularly her strength – consistently improve with time.

As a former ballet student, she was able to bring her dance background to the world of pole and is constantly surprised by the beauty of pole and the inspirational moves, positions and graceful lines that are created.

Charlotte

(Lunchtime Pole)

Charlotte first experienced a pole class with a group of friends back in 2012 - she had such a great time that's she's been hooked ever since and was keen to came back to classes as quickly as she could after the birth of her daughter!
"It becomes an obsession.  It's so challenging, never boring and it takes you away from your daily life for an hour to concentrate on just you.

The team atmosphere is fantastic and there is always someone to push you on when you're frustrated because you just can't crack that move - and they will always be there to give you the hi-five when you finally get it!
Pole gives you a new found confidence and you become so proud of yourself for achieving something that you never thought you would be able to do.
And I love doing doubles tricks - you have to put your total faith in someone else and build a close bond with them.

I try to dance like no one's watching because it makes me feel good, and I hope that's the way people feel when I teach.
That's why my passion is pole."

Hollie

(Wellingborough and Wednesday PAYG drop in/Beginners Improvers)

Before I started pole, I had no previous fitness experience. I took part in a few dance classes in school but, probably once or twice, I did ballet/gymnastics until I was 7 years old and for those 10 years in between that and pole I did no sort of fitness.

I remember booking my first pole session so clearly, I decided that I needed to do something to keep fit, but I wanted to do something fun - the gym to me was boring back then, running on the treadmill for longer than 5 minutes was absolute hell. So, I literally typed into google “unusual things to do for fitness near me” and a pole class popped up! Needless to say, since my first class nearly 6 years ago I have never looked back!

I have been teaching pole  since 2015, 3 1/2 years in my previous pole school and joined Sugar Pole in April 2019, with also experience as a fitness instructor and gaining my Level 2 & 3 Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer qualification.

My biggest reward is helping people exceed their goals, achieve things they never thought they could, develop a confidence they never thought they had and to be a part of a wonderful community. Never have I found a community so welcoming, supportive and positive.

The one thing I love about pole the most? That anyone, absolutely anyone can do it! "

Ashleigh

(Wellingborough)

From an early age I was sent to try out various dance and exercise classes but nothing felt quite right until I found gymnastics at age 7. I went on to compete regionally and nationally for the next 10 years. Hence developing my passion for doing anything involving being upside down, and teaching others to love it as much as I do!

At 16/17 I’d seen a fellow gymnast posting pictures of her new found pole journey online and I was totally in awe, I just had to try it! A new class started up nearby and so I went, by myself, not knowing what to expect, and after the first session I was hooked!

Since then I have entered 2 competitions, one of which I made it to the live finals. Whilst on a 3 year break after having my son, I qualified as a Personal Trainer and couldn’t wait to put my new knowledge to good use when I got back into pole!

I love seeing people realise their progress and being proud of their successes and so I like to set goals and challenges in my classes to prove to students how amazing they have become!

Sugar Pole students always bring such enthusiasm and spirit to the class which builds everyone up no matter what level they’re at, so come and join the sugar pole family!
